Where a home charger really pays off is how you charge. Two things make a big difference in NSW right now — and we set your charger up to take advantage of both.
If you've got rooftop solar, charging in the middle of the day runs your car on power you'd otherwise export for just a few cents a unit. A smart charger can be set to top up only when your panels are generating a surplus — so you're driving on sunshine, not grid power.
From 1 July 2026, NSW electricity retailers must offer at least one plan with a 3-hour block of free power in the middle of the day (11am–2pm), capped at around 24kWh a day. You don't need solar panels — just a smart meter and an eligible plan you opt into. We set your charger to run in that free window, so your car fills up for little to nothing.
Solar Sharer plans vary by retailer and rates outside the free window can be higher, so it's worth comparing plans for your household. But for an EV that mostly charges at home, shifting charging into the free or solar window is where the real savings are — often cutting your "fuel" cost to a fraction of petrol.
